Physical appearance: Mari is a slender girl, though not frighteningly so; shapely for her age, Mari carries most of her weightin her hips and bust, having a small waist that makes her appear a bit more curved than she actually is. Sun-kissed, Mari has burnt-olive skin that is only a bit more fair than her mocha-shaded eyes.
Mari has thin lips that balance out her large brown eye, and a narrow nose with a slight hook. Her face is thin, heart-shaped, and free of blemishes. Her hair is black, and she usually has it in a side braid that reaches her chest.
Typically Mari favors a red tank top that is slightly loose fitting, and fitted shorts, along with tennis shoes – anything that won’t catch on machinery is good, though.

Personality: Mari is a restless spirit, but also a resigned one. She has the same air as someone whose high expectations have not been met, an individual who is impatient and eager, but for something that is always just beyond her reach. Because of this, Mari tends to come of a detached and uncaring, as she seems to always gravitate towards the path of least resistance, almost as though she expects to fail otherwise.
She’s a bit of a nihilistic pessimist, and often thinks on a level that is so long-term that it’s detrimental. She is good at identifying a problem, and even a solution to it – but often lives with her troubles regardless, finding truth in the saying “better the devil you know than the devil you don’t”.  To put it mildly, she knows she’s in a rut, but better the trenches than the battlefield, right?
Despite her front, however, Mari is not as uncaring as she presents herself – and in actuality has many interests ranging from history to mechanics…The problem is, she often gets lost in caring only for those things, and has a problem extending her focus outside them, which makes her appear indifferent.
However, Mari isn’t a complete Debbie-Downer – she does have a dedication to others that has inspired her with a sense of humor, however blunt or morbid, and a devotion to make the best of her situation that would be hard to find in many others of her mindset. Over time, her resignation to the end has blossomed into a desire to live in the moment, and has made her a bit of a risk-taker, if an anarchic smart-ass.

Strengths:
MacGyver: Mari is particularly good with technology, to an almost comical degree; wherein scripts and movies, characters exist that can erect a fully functional automaton with some toothpaste and duct-tape, Mari is their more realistic counterpart: she requires a stapler as well. In short, Mari is a mechanic at heart, and can figure out practically anything technological if she’s allowed to tinker with it long enough.

Observant: Because Mari is deaf, she pays close attention to her surroundings, and is quite talented at reading lips and picking up obstacles visually that might be unnoticed by the hearing otherwise.

Self-Control: Mari is good at keeping a level head in intense situations, and isn’t easily frightened.

Weaknesses:
Deaf: Mari was born hearing, and stayed that way until two years, when an experiment gone terribly wrong resulted in an explosion that robbed her of her hearing. Because of this, Mari is vulnerable to approach and can miss meaning in verbal conversation.

One-Track Mind: Mari tends to get absorbed in whatever she is doing, and can have trouble dislodging herself from a train of thought or a line of conversation. However, this is a symptom of a larger weakness that encompasses a larger idea of dual-commitment, as she is either all in or not all out.

Overly Analytical: Mari has a propensity towards looking at a situation or problem for so long that she is paralyzed from making a decision. This also makes it hard for her to understand situations in which logic doesn’t apply, such as relationships and human emotion.

Fears/Insecurities: Mari often feels like she doesn’t fit in, which is one reason she cares for her friends as deeply as she does. She feels that she’s too isolated and socially inept to handle things “the right way”, and admires those who are strong enough to follow their heart rather than their head.
